XBOX 차세대 칩 생산 시작

Microsoft는 2월말 첫 샘플과 함께 차세대 XBOX본체에 들어갈 칩 생산을 명령했다.

Oban이라고 알려진 이 칩은 CPU와 GPU를 통합한 통합칩이며,
32나노 SOI 공정으로 300nm의 웨이퍼를 이용해 만개 정도 생산 예정에 있다.
 

초기 생산수량이 적은것은 개발킷용이기 때문으로 알려졌다.

2월중에 생산공정에 문제가 없다면 3월중 개발킷으로 배포할 예정이기때문에 2월 말 쯤에는 일반인에게 확실하게 오픈될것이라고 했다.

 

자세한 사양에 대해서는 알려져있는것이 없지만 파워PC계열이고 GPU는 ATI GCN 아키텍쳐로 추정되며 eDRAM은 장착한걸로 보인다.

 Microsoft apparently ordered the production of the chip that will go inside the company’s next-generation Xbox 720 console, with the first samples being expected to be finalized at the end of February.

The chip, which is known under the code name of Oban, was apparently taped out by Microsoft sometime at the start of December, soon after the company contracting IBM to build the first batch of such processors. This initial batch seems to be comprised out of 10K chips that will be fabricated using the 32nm SOI (silicon-on-insulator) process on 300mm wafers.

If this number seems a bit low is because these initial chips aren’t actually supposed to go towards end users but will rather be installed in next-gen Xbox dev kits, so only a select few will have access to them.
